The Packers are the only team in the league that is owned by the community at large. Instead of one small controlling group, or one individual owner, Green Bay and the surrounding community have bought shares in the organization. Every member receives voting rights and no member can have a controlling interest. Furthermore, they operate under non-profit status while releasing their balance sheet to the greater public. This has kept the fan base from feeling shut out--at a time when many teams have gone by the wayside or moved across country at the whim of spiteful owners.

"what a community can do when it gets behind something they believe in" ... way more than stubborn cheese-head stick-to-your-traditions - actually a lot of business model innovation thinking at play here.

And remind me to write a review of the Grateful Dead business book I have somewhere in my stacks ...

IBM ist seit Jahren ein Vorreiter als Enterprise 2.0. Was würden Sie aus dieser Erfahrung heraus anderen Unternehmen raten, wie sie dabei am besten einen Schritt weiter kommen?

Es gibt kein Standardkonzept, denn jede Firma hat ihre Geschichte, ihre Kultur und ihre demografische Pyramide. Unternehmen, die bisher relativ wenig Technologie einsetzen, müssen natürlich genau überlegen, wie sie den Sprung schaffen. Andere sind wesentlich weiter, haben bereits Erfahrungen und können relativ rasch weitere Schritte umsetzen. Dennoch ist klar: Es beginnt nicht mit der Technologie. Das ist nur das Mittel. Gerade Technologieunternehmen, die im Allgemeinen sehr aktiv in der Implementierung von Social Media sind, glauben häufig die Technik sei das Allheilmittel.

In sum, the resource-based view (and its extensions into capabilities etc.), which has been the dominant strategy theory for a while, necessarily needs to reconnect with industry practice to shape its future development. Such engagement will hopefully bring back people, with their creativity, imagination and subjectivity, centrestage in strategy – many in industry practice know about this intuitively and remain puzzled by the lack of such concepts in academic work in the field.
